Files from IPOD to computer?

I am something of an IPOD novice, and need some expert help.

I had a hard drive disaster last week (my husband accidentally "wiped" it, ARRRGHHH!). Needless to say, my 20 GB (over 17 days!) of music was wiped too. It is still on my IPOD, but how can I get it back onto the computer?

Much of it was from borrowed disks (friends, library, etc) and I do not have the original disks (or the time) to re-burn it all.

No problem, buy a program called Anapod Manager for twenny bucks at www.redchairsoftware.com, and you will be able to copy your Ipod back to your computer.

And please don't kill your husband.

Jane, if you're using Windows, you can copy your entire iPod to your harddrive using a FREE program called EphPod.

      www.ephpod.com

      1. Download it, install it.
      2. Run it, let it find your iPod and load the library database.
      3. Select songs you want in the listing.
      4. Right-click the selected songs and select the "Copy Songs To A Directory" option. (Or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+C)
      5. Depending on how you have EphPod configured, it will rename the file with artist, album, track number and track title info and save it to a directory on your harddrive.

I do not recommend using this copy feature on your entire iPod's library all in one action...EphPod seems to have memory bugs and I would do it maybe 20-30 songs at a time.

Thanks to both of you...I will try the free one first, and failing that, the $20 one ($20 is well worth getting mt musak back)

        ps.

I didn't kill my husband in the end, as he managed to retrieve most of my important stuff (1 year of Photoshop files, I work in digital print, and a folder full of 3 mths research for a current job...it was a hard learned lesson in regularly backing up files!)

One nice thing about iPods is that you can also use them as file storage devices. So I have the important documents on my computer backed up on my iPod, in case my laptop suddenly explodes or dies on me.

Though with the relative ease of stealing iPods, I wonder if there's an easy solution for encrypting files before storing them on your iPod. Anyone know of any solutions?

I have been using iPod Rip too and it's amazing. After 10 uses, you have to pay 10 bucks to purchase, but -- my oh my... It's great. Tight little interface, you can make playlists right there w/ new music from the Pod... Yay.

Be cautious of using other progs. I went thru 3 before finding iPod rip, and realized how crappy the others were. It turned out that many of the songs were not in fact being copied, even though it said the songs were.... Imagine my horror when I realized that Andrea Parker wasn't actually on my hard disc like I thought it was....
