At the mo. other than everyday stories from NPR and some brit. comedy I have become addicted to 'Feast of fools'. I love comedy something rotten but being stuck in Germany this podcast is the kind of everday laugh out loud humour which only seems available in English speaking comedy! I sparkles.
Gay humour is crisp and Feast of fools, is a fine example of it...

My iPod has all my old old video's on it that can't actually be played by the iPod but it still hold them in its memory. I know this because I plugged it into my NEW computer to get it charged and a file was brought up that had all this crazy crap from years ago that I never knew was imported to the iPod.

Soooo long story short, I don't want to erase whats on my iPod, I just need to get back onto itunes to start downloading etc. When, (haven't yet) I do download iTunes again, when I plug my iPod in will everything erase since I don't have a library set up etc? Also, how do I establish my old account onto the new computer. I know my information, i.e. songs and vid's are gone but I don't' want to start a whole new account.

I'd probably be happy with just an audio auxilary input jack in the front of the unit. But I'm investigating also those solutions where the knobs on the deck are capable of browsing the folders of your iPod library. [maybe not the best idea...]

Any recommendations on makes and models of car stereo, in combination with adapters, which inteligently and intuitively navigate the iPod? Anythng better than lifting the iPod up in front of your face to navigate? We're talking about driver distraction here.

Once you have a playlist set up click on the list and then go under file menu - choose Print. It gives you an option to Print CD Jewl Case Insert and if you check the different drop down menus - say Mosaic - it will print a collage of the available album artwork for the cover as well as compling a list of the songs.
I make playlists that fit on one CD, just to play at work, and see if folks can guess the theme. The latest is songs with initials in them. Jimi's live version of 'Johnny B. Goode', Rasputina's 'Rose K.' Prince's 'Sexy M.F.' and so on. It's a lot of fun to line up Elliott Smith, Missing Persons, Liz Phair and the Bobs like that (L.A., Walking in L.A., Dogs of L.A. and Christmas in L.A.)
When I first scanned the library for this I ended up with a lot of abbreviations as well as initials. So I had to ditch all the 'Sgt. Pepper's, 'St. Louis Blues', 'Dr. Feelgood' and so on. But I ended up with a good 30 songs with 'Mr.' or 'Mrs' in the titles, so I made that into a whole 'nother playlist.
This is a way to change you Ipod's firmware.

DISCLAIMER I don't have to, but I will anyway !

The methods I give in this tutorial are tried & tested by me, and are safe to use providing they are followed correctly. The methods and techniques are not sanctioned by Apple, and could void your warranty. Follow these steps at your own risk! We are now going to step up a level as far as iPod modding goes, so don't be ignorant or try and cut corners, or your iPod could quite easily become a very expensive doorstop. Follow carefully, and don't try and run before you can walk ;-)

How the iPod generation may be losing its hearing without even knowing it

Here is a RollingStone article about hearing loss:
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/8841090 on rollingstone.com.

-- Turn it down: Don't crank up your portable music player too loud, especially to compensate for other noise around you. If you're on a subway, the ambient noise could be as high as 105 decibels. To hear your tunes, you might turn the music up to 110, a level that is safe only for thirty minutes.

-- Get better headphones: Those that shut out external noise allow you to turn down the tunes. In-ear phones like Etymotic's ER6 ($139) and Shure's E4C ($299) go deep into the ear canal to block pretty much all outside noise -- plus they sound great (a cheaper alternative is Sony's MDR-EX71, $50). Bose's noise-canceling QuietComfort 2 ($299) fits over the ears and removes a lot of low-end noise.

-- Give your ears a rest: Your ears need about eighteen hours after exposure to sustained high volumes before they return to normal.

If you'd like to add something to it, and write some more about iPods, I'd love it, and it'll make it possible to have a larger iPod and mp3 group on the site.

Man, this just makes illegal downloading MORE attractive. This company is run by chimps, I'm sure of it.

Apple to Raise iTunes Prices?

EMI chief says Apple will change to a flexible pricing structure.
November 17, 2005

Apple Computer may blink after all on its dogged determination to keep its price per download for iTunes songs at an across-the-board $0.99.

The company that created the portable digital device sensation, the iPod, and the iTunes Music Store that drives it, may be about to give in to pressure from music publishers such as Warner Music Group and EMI Music.

In a story in Thursday’s Wall Street Journal, Alain Levy, chief executive of EMI, is quoted as saying that he discussed the issue with Apple CEO Steve Jobs and he believes that Apple plans to change its one-price policy. Apple wouldn't comment to RedHerring.com about the report.

According to the paper, Mr. Levy said the issue is not really whether Apple will introduce flexible pricing, but when it will do it.

Shares of Apple closed down $0.43 at $64.52 on Thursday.

Back in September, Mr. Jobs blasted music industry executives, calling them greedy for pushing for an increase in the price of downloaded music, saying their demands, if met, would serve to encourage piracy.

Warner Music Group CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. rose to the challenge, saying the single-price strategy was unfair to the music industry, the artists, and the consumer (see Bronfman Fires Back at Apple). He said the market should decide what music downloads should cost, not a single retailer like Cupertino, California-based Apple.

“Some songs should be $0.99 and some songs should be more. I don’t want to give anyone the impression that $0.99 is a thing of the past,” he said.

Mr. Bronfman said the digital music industry had become the only one that did not have flexible pricing. He could have pointed to the movie industry as a glaring exception to that rule. No matter which movie one attends at the multiplex, whether it’s a hit or a dog, it costs the same.

Sharing iPod Revenue
“We are selling our songs through iPod, but we don’t have a share of iPod’s revenue,” he said. “We want to share in those revenue streams. We have to get out of the mindset that our content has promotional value only.”

At the time Mr. Bronfman called for flexible pricing, Apple refused to respond to questions about the notion that superior or more popular music could be priced higher than $0.99. But according to Mr. Levy, Apple will relent in the next 12 months.

Sales of digital music have been growing in the last couple of years and now account for more than 5 percent of the global recorded music market. That is about three times the level of a year ago.

“There are some reports showing that single-track downloads in the U.S. are slowing, but we are also seeing full album downloads in the U.S. accelerating in growth,” said Eric Nicoli, chairman of EMI Group. “We are interested in digital distribution of every kind all over the world. We are interested in downloads, in subscription models, in legalized peer-to-peer, in every aspect of mobile distribution.”

EMI, which posted its six-month performance on Wednesday, said its digital sales grew by 142.4 percent to $76.5 million, representing 4.9 percent of total group revenues, up from 2.1 percent of the firm’s revenues in the prior year’s first half (see A Sour Note on File Sharing).

I just got my Video Ipod and yes it is very nice. I got it to load my home made iMovies on to the Ipod.

Things that you should know,

1) Money - you will need to upgrade to Quick Time Pro 7.0.3
2) Time - you will need lots of time - I have number of iMovies I created that are over 1 gig in size. This means about 30 mins to export into a IPOD usable file.
3) More time - Then there is the time to load it to itunes - 1 or 2mins/per.
4) More time - Dont forget you still have to sync it. 1-2 mins/per
5) Enjoy and show your friends what a great movie editor you are. Priceless.

I am using a G4 Power Book with a 1 GHZ chip and a USB 1.0 connector...remember no firewire for the new Ipods.

But its still cool.

I use my current mp3 player for audiobooks and it has the best feature I've found: (I have a digitalway MPIO) study mode. What this means is that I can speed up or slow down the playback in 25% increments up to 200% and it does this without distortion, just a faster read back. I love this feature and since I'm listening the entire time I'm working (8-12 hours a day) I really don't want to abandon this option.

My question. Does any iPods have this feature? When I asked this question at the apple store I got blank looks and a half-hour in store discussion followed by a sheepish, "I don't know."

I really don't want to have to load all of my music again, I have a 40 Gb which is almost completely filled, unfortunately my harddrive is not even close to that capacity so I manually transfer my music from iTunes and erase it from my hd when it is on my pod. So I would like to continue loading music with out erasing what I currently have. Is it possible now that my harddrive has been formatted??? Help, please!

I had the inclination to encode most of my music at 256, and essentially have cut the space of my ipod in half.
Does anyone know how to use Anapod's bitrate changer thing? i've found the place in the audiomorph menu, but i can't find how to actually convert it to smaller bitrates? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there.

My wife and I have a pc at home that has a partitioned system. At start up, we choose our own profile, and then we each have our own wallpaper, settings, screensaver, documents, and software. I have iTunes on my 'side', loaded up with nearly 4000 songs that she does not want to hear.
She wants to buy an iPod mini for an upcoming trip, but before we plop down the cash, we want to know if she can have her own totally seperate iTunes library on her 'side', meaning that when I'm on my side and plug in my iPod, all my music gets loaded, but when she's on her side and plugs in her iPod, she'll get all of her stuff.
Or should we play it safe and get her a different brand of player with its own software?

As it is, anything I download goes into a subsection of iTunes called "Anthony's LimeWire Tunes", but it's pretty much locked there. I can't move the tracks to any other playlists or my main library, I can't burn them to a CD (as far as I can tell), hell, I can't even edit the track info.
